Door Prizes for September Meeting

MLQG members who have been coming regularly to monthly meetings know that we have a door prize drawing, but new members may not be familiar with how this works.

It's fairly simple -- at the start of the meeting, a basket is passed around and members who wish to participate are asked to take a ticket, drop the matching one in the basket, and contribute $1 for each ticket. The winner is drawn later in the evening. Normally, there is one prize given away each month, but since September is MLQG's birthday month (16 years this year!), we are celebrating and giving away more goodies this time (see photo above). The prizes this month are a bundle of three Halloween fat quarters, a Moda "Papillon" charm pack, a couple of tweezers, titanium topstitch needles, a seam ripper, and flower-head pins. The fabric prizes include a spool of thread.

Guild members who buy a ticket (or two or three) help support the various activities that the guild provides. Even small fundraisers like this help to keep costs down for everyone. Thank you to all who have purchased door prize tickets in the past and who will continue to do so in the future.

And this month, an extra thank you goes to guild member Kelly Jackson of I Have a Notion for donating the five non-fabric prizes in this month's drawing. If you need some quilting/sewing supplies, be sure to check out Kelly's online store for great prices.

MLQG Charter Member Visits From Germany

Peggi Y., Sabine E., Anya T.
3 of the 28 MLQG charter members

Sabine E. was one of the 28 MLQG charter members back in September 1998, but moved to her native Germany shortly afterward. Earlier this year, she found MLQG online, contacted Peggi Y. and told her that she was coming to Wellsboro for a visit in the fall. Fortunately, her visit coincided with MLQG's exhibit at the Gmeiner this month. Sabine and her husband enjoyed the opening reception and then she spent some time with a few MLQG members at an open sewing session at the Masonic Lodge. What a wonderful visit! Thank you, Sabine, for taking time to see what MLQG is up to these days!

Save the Date!

Tuesday, October 21st will be our next guild workshop. The project?  A two-sided table runner, just in time for holiday gift giving!  The workshop will be held at the Knoxville Community Center, Main Street, Knoxville, PA. There will be a fee for the workshop to cover the costs of using the facility and for the pattern. Our Workshop Committee is still working out the details on the costs, supply list, etc. So stay tuned for more information!   The final details will be announced at the September Guild Meeting (September 15); and will be posted here on the blog and our Facebook page, too.

Reminder About Blocks for Guild Banner

Guild Banner Blocks -- Deadline Extended to September 15

(Here's the info in case you missed it earlier) --

MLQG will soon celebrate its 16th birthday, so it's time we had an identifying banner to display at various public events. Several guild members have volunteered to help put one together, but we really want to involve as many MLQG members as possible.

Since our guild consists of members who quilt in a variety of styles, we want our guild banner to represent our quilting diversity. We're asking you to be a part of this project by making a 6 1/2-inch block (unfinished size), using your own colors, your own fabrics, etc. Make a block that represents you. Use any pattern or technique you like. No rules except for the size -- 6 1/2-inch unfinished (please be sure to measure the block before you send it off).

Please do not sign your individual block on the front. If you would like to include your signature, please do so ONLY within the quarter-inch seam allowance on the BACK of the block. The reason for doing this is because a hundred years from now, someone may want to take this quilt apart for one reason or another -- what a surprise it would be for them to see who helped make it in 2014.

The deadline has been extended until the September 15th guild meeting. Blocks can be given to Anya T. at the meeting.

Thank you to all who have already contributed a block and/or signed up to help with the various tasks involved in the completion of the banner.

If you have any questions, contact Anya (check your roster or newsletter for contact info or comment on this blog post).
