Guild Banner Progress -- Sneak Peek

Thought we'd show you a sneak peek of the guild's banner in progress. Here's a closeup of the center.

You'll get to see the rest once the whole banner is completed. The blocks shown below (made by more than 40 MLQG members!) have all been sewn together and attached to the center.

There's still more work to be done...quilting, binding, and labeling. A big thank you to all guild members who have been involved in this project so far and to those who have volunteered to do the quilting, binding, and labeling!

Beat Cabin Fever - Join Us on Wednesday!

Come sew with us on Wednesday, February 25th, at the Masonic Lodge in Wellsboro during our monthly Charity Sewing Event! We have quilt kits for you to work on, or you can help make placemats for Meals on Wheels. Whether stitching on your machine, cutting or ironing, your help is greatly appreciated. Bring along a bag lunch and join your fellow quilters for an afternoon of fellowship and fun!

** Please note that the parking lot and sidewalk at the lodge are very icy! Use caution, especially when walking from and to your vehicle.

NEEDED - RAFFLE QUILT CHAIRPERSON

Every other year, guild members work together to create a quilt to be raffled off at the close of our biennial quilt exhibit. The Raffle Quilt brings in a significant amount of money that helps defray the operating costs of our guild.
It is now time to start working on the next raffle quilt to ensure it is completed before 2016.  To begin this process, the Exhibit Committee is seeking a member who is willing to take on the job of Raffle Quilt Chairperson.
The Raffle Quilt Chairperson is responsible for coordinating the completion of the Raffle Quilt. It is important to stress that the Raffle Quilt Coordinator is not solely charged with making the quilt, but managing the process to completion.
For more information or to volunteer for this position, please contact Susan Mc., 2016 Exhibit Chairperson (contact information can be found in the guild's roster).

Open Sewing at the Masonic Lodge in Wellsboro -- Wednesday, February 18th

Next Open Sewing Date
 Wednesday, February 18th -- 10:00-2:00

Suffering from cabin fever? Then come to the next open sewing session at the Masonic Lodge in Wellsboro this week. All MLQG members invited.

Open sewing sessions are held every Wednesday (except for the fourth Wednesday of the month) from 10:00AM until 2:00PM at the Ossea Masonic Lodge on Kelsey Street in Wellsboro, PA.  All MLQG members of all ability levels and interests are welcome to attend on these Wednesdays and work on any stitching projects, hand or machine, even knitting/crocheting/embroidery. There is lots of room, and an iron and ironing board available for use. Dress warmly because the lodge can be chilly at first.

The purpose of these get-togethers is to spend time with other MLQG fiber fanatics and to learn from each other, no matter what we're all working on. Bring your projects, machine, and lunch. Stay for an hour or stay all day. Just be warned that if only a couple of people show up, we may pack up early and leave before noon. And if the weather is iffy, only you can decide if it is safe for you to drive. Cancellations will be posted on the guild's blog/website/Facebook page.

The Masons have generously offered their space for us to use both for charity sewing and open sewing. If you know a Mason, please thank him and support the lodge's charitable activities when you can (pancake breakfasts, chicken/ribs BBQs, etc.)

If you need more info or directions to the Masonic Lodge, contact Susan McC,, Dori S., Anya T. or Peggi Y. (see your guild roster for contact info), or comment on this blog post.

If Wellsboro schools are closed due to weather, open sewing will be cancelled. If there is a two-hour delay, we will start at 10:30.

Door Prize Choices for February 2015 Guild Meeting

MLQG members who have been coming regularly to monthly meetings know that we have a door prize drawing, but new members may not be familiar with how this works.

It's fairly simple -- at the start of the meeting, a basket is passed around and members who wish to participate are asked to take a ticket, drop the matching one in the basket, and contribute $1 for each ticket. The winner is drawn later in the evening. The holder of the winning ticket gets to choose one of two prizes. This month's choices are a Moda "Horizon" charm pack with a quilty button or a bottle of Peaches and Cream Best Press.

Guild members who buy a ticket (or two or three) help support the various activities that the guild provides. Even small fundraisers like this help to keep costs down for everyone. Thank you to all who have purchased door prize tickets in the past and who will continue to do so in the future.

Place Mats for Tioga County Meals on Wheels

Our January workshop attendees made place mats for Tioga County "Meals on Wheels". Our Guild Workshop organizers, Bonnie H. and Grace S., delivered them to the Galeton, Westfield, Knoxville, Elkland, and Lawrenceville M.O.W. centers. But many more are needed! If each guild member could make one place mat they would meet their goal. Use your own pattern or contact Bonnie H., Grace S., Lynn G., or Dori S. for examples of simple patterns.
