Open Sewing at the Gmeiner -- Monday, June 29th

Next Open Sewing Session
 Monday, June 29th at the Gmeiner 10:00 - 2:00

MLQG's daytime open sewing sessions have officially moved to Mondays, 10:00 - 2:00. The new location is the back room of the Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center (where the monthly guild meetings are held). There will be no more Wednesday sessions at the Masonic Lodge.

All MLQG members of all ability levels and interests are welcome to attend on open sewing Mondays and work on any stitching projects, hand or machine, even knitting/crocheting/embroidery. The fourth Monday of the month will be reserved for charity sewing.

The purpose of these get-togethers is to spend time with other MLQG fiber fanatics and to learn from each other, no matter what we're all working on. Bring your projects, machine, and lunch. Stay for an hour or stay all day. Just be warned that if only a couple of people show up, we may pack up early and leave before noon. Cancellations will be posted on the guild's blog/website/Facebook page.

If you need more info contact Susan McC., Dori S., Anya T., or Peggi Y., or comment on this blog post.

Community Outreach Sewing Day - June 22nd

Come join us for this month's charity sewing and social event, at the Gmeiner Center on Monday, June 22nd, from 10:00 - 2:00
We'll be putting together multiple lap quilts using blocks guild members have made over the last few months. We also have tumbler quilts kits to assemble. If you can’t bring your machine there is still plenty of ways to help out, i.e. cutting, sorting, pressing, putting kits together, etc.
Many of the quilts will be donated to foster kids through CONCERN, a nonprofit child welfare agency in our immediate area and throughout the state of Pennsylvania.
We’ll meet at he Gmeiner Center in Wellsboro. There is lots of room, and an iron and ironing board available for use. Bring your sewing machine if you are able, and a bag lunch.
Contact Dori S. or Lynn G., Outreach Chairs, with any questions about our sewing plans. (Find contact information is in the roster or comment on this post.)

Reminder -- Call for Entries for Modern Exhibit

Just a reminder that MLQG members are encouraged to enter their quilts in the Gmeiner's modern quilt exhibit in September 2015. The exhibit is open to all quilters within 150 miles of Wellsboro (as the crow flies). Since this is NOT an MLQG show, all quilters are eligible. Please pass the info on to other quilters you may know.

For information on entry requirements and details on the exhibit, please check the Gmeiner's website by clicking here.

Tonight's Guild Meeting Program: Andover Fabric Designer Gail Kessler "From Concept to Cloth"

June 15th Guild Meeting Program - Gail Kessler "From Concept to Cloth"

Gail presents a lively and informative talk regarding our favorite passion: Fabric! She discusses the how's and why's of fabric design concept, execution, printing, distribution, quality, and availability. Ever wonder why fabrics don't stay in stock longer, or who determines the trends? How does one become a fabric designer? Should I pre-wash or not? What are those little pin holes along the sides of my fabric? What are "gams"? All these questions and much more will be covered. Bring your questions - Gail will be ready for you! There will be show and tell (and items for sale if you like - let me know)

Gail is a former Marketing Director and current designer for Andover Fabrics, and a former Marketing Director of Benartex Fabrics. She owns Ladyfingers Sewing Studio in Oley PA, which is a BERNINA dealer as well as a 4000 bolt quilt shop. Gail is also a Craftsy instructor with three classes running with nearly 200,000 students enrolled. She has been published in virtually every major quilting magazine and has appeared twice on Fons & Porter's Love of Quilting TV show on PBS, and has lectured and taught quiltmaking nationwide and on several quilt cruises.
