Open Sewing at the Masonic Lodge in Wellsboro -- Wednesday, October 29th

Open sewing sessions are held every Wednesday (except for the fourth Wednesday of the month) from 10:00AM until 2:00PM at the Ossea Masonic Lodge on Kelsey Street in Wellsboro, PA.  All guild members of all ability levels and interests are welcome to attend on these Wednesdays and work on any stitching projects, hand or machine,  even knitting/crocheting/embroidery. There is lots of room, and an iron and ironing board available for use.

The purpose of these get-togethers is to spend time with other fiber fanatics and to learn from each other, no matter what we're all working on. Bring your projects, machine, and lunch. Stay for an hour or stay all day. Just be warned that if only a couple of people show up, we may pack up early and leave before noon. And if the weather is iffy, only you can decide if it is safe for you to drive. Cancellations will be posted on the guild's blog/website/Facebook page.

The Masons have generously offered their space for us to use both for charity sewing and open sewing. If you know a Mason, please thank him and support the lodge's charitable activities when you can (pancake breakfasts, chicken/ribs BBQs, etc.)

If you need directions to the lodge, please contact Susan McC., Anya T., or Dori S. (check your roster for contact info), or comment on this blog post.

NEXT OPEN SEWING DATE -- WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 29TH

Fall Retreat at Linck Hill Inn

Our fall guild quilting retreat was held at the beautiful Linck Hill Inn in Morris, PA, during the last week in September, 2014, with two sessions - Tuesday to Thursday and Friday to Sunday, a wonderful time was had by all!

Click here to see the video.

A quilt retreat is a fun event, relaxing and yet still very productive, and a wonderful way to get to know your fellow guild members. And no matter how experienced you are – you will almost certainly learn something new from your retreat sisters; a new cutting technique, a new block-making technique, binding tricks, quilting tips,  an on and on. It’s like a three-day consultation session with your own personal team of professional quilters!

I hope you enjoy viewing the video of the photos from the first session, these candid snapshots were taken by our retreat coordinator, Sylvia L., during the impromptu “Show and Tell” session on our last morning in the sewing studio.  Not every attendee is shown – some cleverly held their quilting project in FRONT of their face (cleverly or wisely?  Some of us were still in our "PJ's"s…) so you may not see a photo of each and every quilter. And since they were candid shots snapped mid-speak as we described our projects there are a few of us with silly looks on our faces, I can vouch for that! Click on this link to see the video:  Fall Retreat Slide Show

If anyone has photos from the second session to share, please let me know - reply to this post or mention it on Facebook - so I can add them to this post! J

A big “thank you” to Sylvia L. and her sister Ronda H. for all their hard work setting up the retreat event.

Banner Blocks from a Banner Guild!

Wow! Look at all of these blocks made by MLQG members for our identifying banner!

Guild volunteers will soon be putting these blocks together into a top and then working on all of the finishing -- quilting, binding, labeling, etc. Thank to to all who have contributed blocks and thank you to those who have signed up to help get this finished! If the stars all align the way they should (and if the blocks all fit together), perhaps we can unveil the finished banner at the MLQG holiday party in December.

9 Patch Blocks Needed!

Make 12 ½" (unfinished) 9-Patch blocks (4 ½" squares or strips) made with kid friendly novelty prints and coordinating solids or tone on tone prints.  The novelty print can be in either the four or five square positions.   Please bring your finished blocks to the November, December, and January meetings. We will sew the tops together on Charity Quilting days beginning on January 28th. Finished quilts will be donated to CONCERN.

Door Prizes for October Meeting

MLQG members who have been coming regularly to monthly meetings know that we have a door prize drawing, but new members may not be familiar with how this works.

It's fairly simple -- at the start of the meeting, a basket is passed around and members who wish to participate are asked to take a ticket, drop the matching one in the basket, and contribute $1 for each ticket. The winner is drawn later in the evening. Normally, there is one prize given away each month, but since the October 20th meeting is a special meeting celebrating our recent exhibit, we are giving away more goodies this time (see photo above). The prizes this month are a plastic storage case, a Jim Shore figurine, two Snap Sacks with fabric, and a Comfort Cutter. All prizes will be given away and the price is still just $1/ticket!

Guild members who buy a ticket (or two or three) help support the various activities that the guild provides. Even small fundraisers like this help to keep costs down for everyone. Thank you to all who have purchased door prize tickets in the past and who will continue to do so in the future.

Again this month, an extra thank you goes to guild member Kelly Jackson of I Have a Notion for donating the prizes in this month's drawing. If you need some quilting/sewing supplies, be sure to check out Kelly's online store for great prices.

Important News About Charity Quilting

Charity Quilting, which is normally held at the Masonic Lodge on the 4th Wednesday of each month, is going to be on hold for the next few months.  Because of a scheduling conflict in October, Thanksgiving in November, and Christmas in December, we thought it best to put Charity Quilting on hiatus rather than trying to reschedule so many dates.  Use this break to enjoy time in your own sewing room, but please continue to support the guild's current outreach projects too!  See you all again for Charity Quilting at the Masonic Lodge on January 28!
