Fidget Quilts
A Fidget Quilt is a small lap quilt that provides sensory and tactile stimulation for the restless or "fidgety" hands of someone with Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia.
Guidelines
Fidget quilts should fit on a lap or table so the user can reach everything on it. 18” x 24" works well. (12 - 6 1/2" blocks)
All fabrics and embellishments should be washable.
All embellishments should be securely sewn to the quilt.
Fidget quilts are needed for men and women. Choose either gender neutral fabric/colors or you can make it highly gendered with novelty prints and gendered colors.
Keep it simple.
Busy patterns may cause fidget items to blend in the background and make the quilt look chaotic.
Contrasting blocks help draw attention to every area of the quilt.
Do use textured fabrics such as flannel, fleece, Minky fur, satin, silk, corduroy, chenille, mesh overlays, tulle, denim, etc.
Do use ribbon, lace, ric-rac, embroidery, Velcro, zippers, pockets, prairie points, etc.
Do NOT use anything that could be a potential choking hazard such as small buttons, beads, or objects under 1" in size.
Do NOT use anything metal such as buckles, D rings, jewelry, etc.
Most importantly, have FUN! Fidget quilts are a great opportunity to practice your free motion quilting, new quilting patterns, new blocks, machine embroidery, and applique. Use Fidget Quilts to learn something new, try something new, or to practice some skills.

Honor With Quilts
Veterans in hospice care often face physical and emotional challenges, and a simple gift of a quilt can have a profound impact on their well-being. By presenting a quilt as a token of gratitude for their service, we can provide them with a sense of comfort and support during this difficult time.
What kind of fabric should I use?
The fabric should be of high quality and made of 100% cotton. Patriotic colors, military, or branch specific themes are prefered.
Do I need to use a certain pattern?
No, you can either choose to follow a commercial pattern or get creative with your own design. If you're looking for inspiration, there are plenty of free patterns that you can find online.
What dimensions should the quilt be?
Lap and throw size quilts work well. Around 40” x 55” is a favorite size.
I don’t sew, can I donate supplies instead of quilts?
Yes, if you don't sew, you can still contribute by donating quality fabrics, low-loft batting, or thread.
How do I donate a finished quilt or quilt supplies?
Finished quilts or quilt supplies may be dropped off at Scheetz Sew Creative Quilt Shop, 667 Round Top Rd., Wellsboro, PA. 16901 during regular business hours (M-S 10-5, CLOSED Sunday). Please clearly mark bags/boxes containing quilts or supplies “Honor With Quilts”.
Our goal is to offer a quilt to every veteran in hospice care,
so any number of quilts you can share with us is greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
