Face Masks

Because of the shortage of N95 masks due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many of us have been making face masks for local organizations. We fulfilled a request from the Humble Bumble Project but requests for face masks are still are coming in as the virus continues to spread.  As long as there is a need, we will continue making masks.  Use your favorite face mask pattern or find patterns, tips, and tutorials under the Outreach Projects tab.  If you know of a verified request and have a contact person for that request, please share it with Susan Mc so we can let the guild know of the need.  Social distancing makes collections a little challenging. Completed face masks can be mailed to Susan Mc or they can be put in a sealed ziplock bag and placed in the dropbox on Susan Mc’s patio. Please call, text, or email Susan for directions. 

FACE MASKS FOR THE HUMBLE BUMBLE PROJECT

Since Bumble Bags cannot be delivered to chemo patients at this time, the Humble Bumble Project has decided to offer to send care packages to those in need.  Included will be two bottles of hand sanitizer, a bottle of hand lotion, and a pack of tissues.  They have enough supplies for 50 care packages and would like to include a fabric face mask in those packages.

Because many of us do not have elastic available at this time we are asking that you use one of the patterns linked in this post.  Please use gender neutral fabrics for this project if possible.

MLQG Mini-Retreat Cancelled

MLQG's one-day mini-retreat is another casualty of COVID-19. This event planned for March 28 occurs in the window of caution for groups of 10 or more; therefore, it is cancelled. Hopefully we'll be able to plan another soon.

MLQG March 2020 Meeting Canceled

The Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center and Green Free Library will be closed Sunday, March 15 through Sunday, March 29 to follow instructions by the Office of Commonwealth Libraries to be consistent with Governor Tom Wolf's efforts to slow the spread of COVID-19. All programs and group activities are canceled at this time. Please follow the The Green Free Library and Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center for updates, or check our websites for more information.

Important Reminder for MLQG 2020 Exhibit

Just a reminder, that you must be a member of MLQG by this month's meeting, Monday, March 16th. Yearly dues are $20.

Upcycled Clothing Photos

Here are some samples of "upcycled clothing" that MLQG Vice-President Kathy B. has made. She will be teaching the method of making new clothes from old at an upcoming workshop on April 25th. See the previous blog post for details.

Upcycled Clothing Workshop -- Saturday, April 25th

MLQG Vice-President Kathy B. will be teaching an upcycled clothing workshop on Saturday, April 25th (9:00 AM until 3:00 PM) in the Tokishi Building on NYPUM Drive in Wellsboro.

The cost for the workshop is $10.00 and will benefit the guild.

Materials needed: Sewing machine
 Serger (if you have one, and Kathy will have one available to use)
 Clothing items you want to recreate (also fabric and/or trims)
 Large cutting board and rotary cutter
 Sewing tools (scissors, seam ripper, measuring tape, thread, etc.)

MLQG March 2020 Meeting Program

The program at MLQG's meeting on March 16th will be “My Worst Quilting Nightmare”.  Please share with members your project or story when you had difficulty with a project, pattern, or tool.  Many of us have had those moments when we should have asked ourselves, “What was I thinking?”

This should be a fun evening!
