Tuesday, March 28th at the Gmeiner from 12-4.  Please bring sewing machines and tools to sew string blocks. If you have strings to share, they should be 1 1/4” - 2 1/2” in width. Lengths can vary, but width of fabric, or width of a fat quarter would be great. Contact Tess with questions or for more information.

March Meeting

The March meeting of the MLQG was held Monday, March 20th. The program, Healthy Posture and Avoiding RSI, was presented by David Cummings, Mansfield YMCA. Remember to stop and stretch every hour to avoid repeated stress injuries during a marathon quilting session!

Need Block Ideas For Your Fidget Quilts?

Fleece, flannel, minkee, satin blanket binding, couched satin cording, hair elastics strung on ribbon, velcro, micro quilting, prairie point flaps, embroidery, woven ribbons, crinkle mylar, and large plastic bottle caps tucked between the layers.  They all feel so good and will help keep restless hands busy!

Important Mini-Retreat Update

Update for the MLQG “SMALL PROJECTS” Mini-Retreat scheduled for tomorrow, Monday, March 13, 2023.

There is ❄️ SNOW ❄️ in the forecast 🥶 so we have decided to give everyone a little extra time in the morning and start an HOUR LATER!  Doors will open at 9:30 to set up and we will begin at 10:00 and sew till 4:00.

❄️ Please note if NTSD cancels school, the mini-retreat will be cancelled as well. ❄️

Outreach Update

Thanks to all those who participate in the guild's outreach projects all of these quilts and more are on their way to children, seniors, veterans, and military!

I recently heard from UPMC Hospice and they are in need of more veteran quilts and fidget quilts.  If you are looking for a quick project to work on during the upcoming snowstorm please consider one of these projects for hospice patients.  You will find all the details by clicking the Outreach Projects tab at the top of this page.

WHAT?

Mountain Laurel Quilt Guild Mini-Retreat!

WHEN?

Saturday, April 29, 2023 

WHERE?

First Presbyterian Church, Main Street, Wellsboro, PA

TIME?

9:30a.m. 3:30 p.m. (Doors open at 9 a.m. to set up.)

PROJECT?

We will learn how to make a "special" block for the MLQG Raffle Quilt for our 2024 Quilt Exhibit! Demonstrations with Tess McCarthy, Dawn Pettie and Marjory Harris. This Mini-Retreat will give members a chance to help make these "special" blocks for our next raffle quilt!

COST?

$8.00 (This will help to pay for the venue, door prizes and bottled water.) You will need to bring your own lunch for this workshop!

Feel free to bring snacks to share if you would like.

MATERIALS?

Bring your sewing machine, a pressing mat/small iron, an extension cord and any personal sewing belongings needed to sew... including a cutting mat and ruler, a rotary cutter, scissors, a light, *a seat cushion or pillow to sit on* and anything else you think you might need!

Please bring a variety of fabric scraps to make the blocks. Strips need to be 18 inches long and at least 1 ¼ inches to 2 ½ inches wide.

Enjoy a day of SEWING with guild members AND help make some blocks for the next MLQG Raffle Quilt! Also, DOOR PRIZES to round out our day! We always have a lot of FUN when we get together with friends who "LOVE TO SEW"!

We will also have a table set up for "FREE" stuff! If you have quilting/sewing books/supplies/fabrics, etc., that you would like to offer up for free, please bring them to the mini-retreat!

Sign-ups begin today and payment ($8.00) is due by April 17th to reserve your place. You can contact me at janiceehess@hotmail.com to sign up for the "RAFFLE QUILT" Mini-Retreat. Full refunds for cancellations until April 22nd. After that, if there is no wait list, you are responsible for someone to take your place or forfeit your payment. Please make checks out to MLQG. There is space for 20 participants! (We need 10 people to have the workshop.) If space is available, this workshop will be open to "non-members" on April 18, 2023 and the cost for "non-members" is $10.00 due by April 22nd. We always welcome new people to join us!
