MLQG 2020 Exhibit Challenge Announcement

The next MLQG exhibit is just about a year away, so it's time for our members to start working on their challenge quilt. We're making it simple this year, with a theme that fits our 2020 raffle quilt. You don't even have to buy any new fabric; just use your leftover fabric strips of all sizes from other projects and let your imagination go! Swap with friends and get even more variety in your challenge quilt!

Theme -- 2020 Strings and Things
Dimensions -- challenge quilt MUST BE 20" x 20"

To refresh your memory of what the guild's 2020 raffle quilt looks like, click here to read about it in a previous blog post. Your challenge quilt DOES NOT have to look like the guild's raffle quilt, but should be made of leftover fabric strings. We all have plenty!

READY, SET, SEW!!

MLQG July 2019 Program -- Lynne Hagmeier

Well, that was quite an evening. Our first experience with a guild meeting and program speaker with no power at the Gmeiner!

We made it work, though.

Our guest speaker, Lynne Hagmeier, of Kansas Troubles Quilts, was very gracious and understanding as we all packed into the back room studio of the Gmeiner, where there was a little bit of daylight for the first part of the meeting. MLQG members in the front row helped illuminate Lynne and her trunk show of amazing quilts using their flashlights on their phones. Unfortunately, although the lighting helped the guests in the audience see the quilts, the photos are not the best. But they are still wonderful to look at.

Take a look...and click on the photos for a larger view.

Raffle Quilt Work Bee -- Monday, July 22nd

MLQG members are invited to help with the next stage of the guild's 2020 raffle quilt. We will meet at the Gmeiner studio on Monday, July 22nd, starting at 9:00 AM and working until 1:00. We would especially like to invite members with hand-applique skills (and we know there are quite a few talented members in the guild) to work on the stem and leaf applique, as well as tacking down some of the dimensional flowers.

Please bring hand-sewing tools, and dark green and pink thread.

If you would like to volunteer to help with applique, but cannot make it to this work bee, please contact MLQG Raffle Chair Tess McC. (her contact info can be found on the guild's roster and newsletters).

MLQG July Meeting -- FRIDAY, JULY 19th

30-something lap quilt from KT's "Layers of Love" book

Just a reminder that MLQG will be hosting Lynne Hagmeier, designer of Kansas Troubles fabric, at our July meeting on FRIDAY, July 19th, at 7:00 PM in the Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center. Lynne has created hundreds of quilting patterns, designed over 50 fabric collections, and published two dozen books.

After the guild's business meeting and show-and-tell segments, Lynne will be presenting a lecture and trunk show. All members and guests are welcome to attend.

Lynne recently wrote about her upcoming trip to this part of the country, including Wellsboro. Check out her blog post by clicking here. You can also read more about Lynne and her patterns/books/fabrics on her blog.

There are still a few spaces open in Lynne's workshop on Saturday, July 20th. Click here for info (scroll down the page to the "workshops" section. Contact Tess McC. ASAP if you're interested. Her contact info can be found on the guild's roster and newsletters.

MLQG Quilt Market Is Coming!

No photo description available.
Aug 31 and September 1, 2019
Quilt Market is MLQG’s special event for the year. Members may offer their work for sale over the Labor Day weekend. We’re hoping to have a good assortment of hand made, stitched, quilted, embroidered goods to show the community what our guild can do. We’ll be in business on Saturday and Sunday, August 31 and September 1 in the workroom at the Gmeiner.  Please look over the things you have made that haven’t yet found a home. Place mats, table toppers, baby quilts, tote bags or purses, mug mats, zipper bags, and especially fall and winter holiday-themed items will be very attractive items to offer for sale. Name your price. We’ll pay the Gmeiner a 20% commission. Even if you don't sell all your items, you'll be prepared with Christmas gifts!

We’ll need some display furniture, too. Can you lend us a quilt rack, a folding drying rack or something else that could be used to display our pretty things? And would you like to help staff the sale? Call or email Peggi Y. to sign up to sell or help or for more details. Her contact info can be found on the guild's roster and newsletters.
