MLQG Virtual Raffle Ticket Sales

Mountain Laurel Quilt Guild members spent many hours last year creating a quilt to be raffled off throughout 2020 and the Guild’s Exhibit scheduled for September. The drawing is scheduled for October.

With the lockdown, the guild has not been able to meet, and we have not been able to get the quilt to various events to sell tickets. The proceeds from the raffle usually cover many of our program expenses for the next year.

We are hoping to sell some tickets virtually. If you are interested in tickets, which are $1 each, or 6 for $5, please use the "contact us" form on the right side of this blog (be sure to include your email address), and we will email you the snail-mail address for tickets. You can send a check made out to Mountain Laurel Quilt Guild, and we will fill out your tickets and get them in the drawing. We will keep your stubs, or if you want them, you can send a stamped envelope with ticket money and we will send them to you. If you are the winner, and you are not local, we will happily mail the quilt to you. Good luck!

MLQG 2020 Raffle Quilt Photos

MLQG's 2020 raffle quilt is complete and ready for a new home (but not until October)!

The guild's raffle quilt was revealed at the November 2019 guild meeting, and we're now in the process of selling tickets. Members are encouraged to get a few books of tickets to sell from raffle quilt ticket chair Ellen M. at guild meetings or at other arranged times. Her contact info can be found on the guild's roster, or you can use the "contact us" form on this blog. The cost is $1/ticket or $5/6 tickets. The drawing will be held at the October 19, 2020 MLQG meeting.

Proceeds from the raffle ticket sales go toward guild programs and activities, so the more we sell, the more we can do in the upcoming years! When selling tickets, feel free to use these photos to show how gorgeous the quilt is.

As we've said before, a big THANK YOU goes to all MLQG members who helped make this quilt a reality. MLQG Rocks!

Help Needed To Sell Raffle Tickets!

The guild will be selling tickets for our 2020 raffle quilt during Wellsboro's Christmas on Main Street celebration on Saturday, December 14th at the Deane Center on Main Street. Volunteers are needed to help sell tickets from 9:00 to 4:00. If you can spare an hour or two, please contact raffle quilt chair Tess McC. Her contact info is in the guild's newsletter and on the member roster. Or you can just use the "contact us" form on the right side of this blog, and we'll make sure Tess gets your message.

Please consider helping out. It should be a fun day in Wellsboro, and by selling raffle tickets, the guild can continue to provide valuable programs and events for MLQG members.

Raffle Quilt Work Bee -- Monday, July 22nd

MLQG members are invited to help with the next stage of the guild's 2020 raffle quilt. We will meet at the Gmeiner studio on Monday, July 22nd, starting at 9:00 AM and working until 1:00. We would especially like to invite members with hand-applique skills (and we know there are quite a few talented members in the guild) to work on the stem and leaf applique, as well as tacking down some of the dimensional flowers.

Please bring hand-sewing tools, and dark green and pink thread.

If you would like to volunteer to help with applique, but cannot make it to this work bee, please contact MLQG Raffle Chair Tess McC. (her contact info can be found on the guild's roster and newsletters).

Raffle Quilt Progress

Several MLQG members (Tess McC., Susan McC., Peggi Y., Dawn P., Carol B., Sylvia S., Deb P., and Anya T.) spent an evening working on the guild's 2020 raffle quilt. This time, they worked on the design of the applique portion of the quilt. Bias stems were sewn, and dimensional hexie flowers were made.

We can still use some volunteers to help with the hand applique once all the pieces are ready. Contact raffle quilt chair Tess McC. if you have some time to work on it, even just a little. You can find her contact info on the guild's roster and the monthly newsletter.

Take a look at the progress...

Raffle Quilt Work Bee -- Wednesday, June 19th (Evening)

Learn how to make this flower!

Come join the fun and learn something new while helping with MLQG's 2020 raffle quilt!

The next raffle quilt work bee will be held in the evening for members who have not been able to come to the daytime sessions. The upcoming work bee will be held on Wednesday, June 19th from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM at the Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center in Wellsboro. The plan is to design and to start work on the applique portion of the quilt. The applique will consist of vines, stems, leaves, and mountain laurel flowers.

This will be a chance for MLQG members to learn how to work with bias bars and to learn a technique for making folded mountain laurel flowers. Novices are welcome!

We need some pink fabrics for the flowers and green fabrics for the leaves, please. They should be large enough for leaves and at least 6" square for the flowers. Not quite solids, but fabrics that read as solids (no other colors or wild prints on them). We could also use a half-yard to yard of dark green for the vines. If you cannot make it to the work bee, please bring your fabric to the June 17th guild meeting and give them to Tess McC.

All MLQG members are welcome to participate. If you need more info, contact raffle chair Tess McC. (her contact info is on the guild roster and newsletters).

Many MLQG Hands Make Light Work!

MLQG members gathered today at the Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center to continue working on the guild's 2020 raffle quilt. Today's task was to make the scrappy neutral blocks that will be the inner frame for the center's bright scrappy blocks.

Things are moving along nicely.

MLQG Raffle Quilt Progress -- Neutral Fabrics Needed

Several MLQG members worked hard on our next raffle quilt yesterday. (See yesterday's blog post for more photos.)

The center of the quilt is finished, but now we need to work on the first border, which will consist of scrappy blocks made with light neutral fabrics. This border will have some applique added on top. Then there will be another border of the regular scrappy blocks added around the neutral blocks.

In order to make these blocks, we need more neutral fabric. So if you have some strips, strings, or chunks of light tan/cream/white fabrics (lighter than a brown paper bag) that you are willing to donate, please bring them to the April MLQG meeting. Please, no more than one quart-size bag per person.

Thank you to all guild members who have contributed fabric and/or have made blocks, as well as to those who worked at the Gmeiner yesterday.
