A Few Openings Remain for the November 9th Workshop/Mini-Retreat

There are still a few openings available for MLQG's "Bumble Bag" workshop in early November. Contact Outreach Chair Susan McC.  ASAP to sign up for the fun day!

It’s two great MLQG activities rolled into one!  MLQG will be holding a Workshop Mini-Retreat Combo on, Saturday, November 9th, at the First Presbyterian Church in Wellsboro, from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM. The cost for the day is just $5.00!

For the workshop part of the combo, we will spend the morning making Bumble Bags for the Humble Bumble Project.  Bumble Bags are handmade drawstring bags that contain small items of comfort (lip balm, tissues, hard candy, hand sanitizer, etc.) for pediatrics and young adults who are receiving cancer treatments. The pattern, fabric, and instruction will be provided by MLQG Outreach.  Completed bags will be donated to the Humble Bumble project, a 501(c)(3) public charity, based in Tioga County, PA, dedicated to helping pediatric and young adult cancer patients and their families.

Bring your own lunch or order out from one of the local restaurants.  Snacks to share throughout the day are always welcome!

The afternoon will consist of the Mini-Retreat portion of the day.  Spend the afternoon working on your own projects or continue making Bumble Bags.  The choice is yours!

For more information or to sign up please contact Susan McC., Outreach Chair or Ann K., Workshop Chair. Contact info can be found on the guild's roster and in every issue of the guild's newsletter.

MLQG's Meeting Place Celebrates 50 Years

Since September 1998, the Mountain Laurel Quilt Guild has been fortunate to have our meetings and other events at the Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center in Wellsboro, PA, always free of charge. This is thanks to the generosity of the founder of the gallery, Arthur Gmeiner.

As the Gmeiner celebrates its 50th birthday, please consider making a donation to the center so that it can continue to provide a special place for the public to enjoy exhibits and presentations by various artists and organizations.

Click here to read all about it.

Thank you!

October Open Sewing/Raffle Quilt Work Bee Date Change -- Monday, October 14

Note that October's open sewing is on the SECOND Monday

Next Open Sewing/Raffle Quilt Work Bee Session
 Monday, October 14th at the Gmeiner 10:00 - 2:00

The October open sewing session will be combined with a raffle quilt work bee. Guild members are welcome to come help with sewing the final borders onto the quilt and with piecing the backing, or to bring their own stitching projects.

All MLQG members of all ability levels and interests are welcome to attend the open sewing sessions at the Gmeiner Art and Cultural Center (where the monthly guild meetings are held) on the first Monday of each month, 10:00 - 2:00, to work on any stitching projects, hand or machine, even knitting, crocheting, or embroidery. Changes to the schedule will be posted on the guild's blog and Facebook page.

The purpose of these get-togethers is to spend time with other MLQG fiber fanatics and to learn from each other, no matter what we're all working on. Bring your projects, machine, and lunch. Stay for an hour or stay all day. Just be warned that if only a couple of people show up, we may pack up early and leave before noon. Cancellations will be posted on the guild's blog/website/Facebook page.

If you need more info, contact Susan McC., Anya T., or Peggi Y., or use the "contact us" form on the right side of this blog.
