Nine-Patch Pandemonium! Join Us!

Come join us for this month's charity sewing event, a "Quilting Assembly Line" at the Masonic Lodge on Wednesday, January 28th, from 10:00 - 2:00.

We'll be putting together multiple lap quilts using the 9-patch blocks guild members have made over the last few months, which will be donated to foster kids through CONCERN, a nonprofit child welfare agency offering foster care, residential services and counseling to children in our immediate area and  throughout the state of Pennsylvania. http://www.concern4kids.org/

The Ossea Masonic Lodge is in Wellsboro, at #8 Kelsey Street, about 1/4 mile from the Gmeiner Center.  There is lots of room, and an iron and ironing board available for use. Dress warmly because the lodge can be chilly at first. Bring your sewing machine if you are able, and a bag lunch. The lodge does have a microwave we can use.

Contact Dori S. or Lynn G., Outreach Chairs, with any questions about our sewing plans. (Find contact information is in the roster or comment on this blog post.)

If you need directions to the Masonic Lodge, contact Susan McC,, Dori S., Anya T. or Peggi Y. (see your guild roster for contact info), or comment on this blog post.

If Wellsboro schools are closed due to weather, open sewing will be cancelled. If there is a two-hour delay, we will start at 10:30.

Door Prizes for January Guild Meeting

MLQG members who have been coming regularly to monthly meetings know that we have a door prize drawing, but new members may not be familiar with how this works.

It's fairly simple -- at the start of the meeting, a basket is passed around and members who wish to participate are asked to take a ticket, drop the matching one in the basket, and contribute $1 for each ticket. The winner is drawn later in the evening. The holder of the winning ticket gets to choose one of two prizes. This month's choices are a Moda Candy project booklet with two packs of Moda "Best Day Ever" candy squares or a Moda "Horizon" charm pack with a quilty button.

Guild members who buy a ticket (or two or three) help support the various activities that the guild provides. Even small fundraisers like this help to keep costs down for everyone. Thank you to all who have purchased door prize tickets in the past and who will continue to do so in the future.

The Watson Homestead accommodations and food are top notch, and our sewing area in the main lodge lower level is large and well lit. The motel-style rooms have two double beds and a private bath, and are adjacent to the dining room and sewing area. In addition to the relaxing sewing and sharing, our retreats always include a few planned activities for entertainment!  This year we've added a new "bingo-style" quilting game, along with favorites like "Left, Right, Center"; sharing orphan blocks; door prizes; and a freebie table.  A masseuse will be available to provide massages for us - especially nice after a day spent at the sewing machine! It's always such a good time sewing, sharing, laughing, and relaxing together.

Cost is $179 for Friday and Saturday nights, and an extra $63 for Thursday night.  Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are provided on Saturday; and brunch on Sunday, but no meals on Thursday or Friday.  We'll make plans for a potluck supper on Thursday. There are usually plenty of leftovers to eat on Friday, and folks often eat out or bring their own meals . There is plenty of space in the kitchen area for any snacks and treats we bring along!
More details will be forwarded to each participant regarding the $75 deposit (due now!) and meal updates. Contact Darlene W. or Sally G. with any questions, their contact info is on your copy of the guild roster.
