PATCH - Providing Aid Through Creative Handiwork took place at the Gmeiner Art and Cultural Center on Friday, January 23. A dedicated group of fifteen participants came together to create eight patriotic quilt tops for the We Honor With Quilts initiative. Once completed, these quilts will be donated to veterans in hospice care, providing them with comfort and warmth as a heartfelt thank you for their service.

Quilt It! Placemat Challenge
Quilt It! Placemat Challenge
Using 2 ½” strips, piece a placemat approximately 12 ½”x18 ½”.
Strips can be sewn vertical, horizontal, or a combination of both.
The challenge is to quilt a different design in every 2 ½” strip!
Step out of your comfort zone and experiment with something new! Try a walking foot, free motion, or ruler work. There are LOTS of options!

During the January meeting, members of the Mountain Laurel Quilt Guild shared and discussed quilts that are particularly meaningful to them, highlighting the personal stories and memories associated with these treasured quilts.

2025 Outreach
The outreach program of the Mountain Laurel Quilt Guild achieved remarkable success in 2025, showcasing the dedication and creativity of its members. Throughout the year, the guild crafted an impressive array of items to support various community needs. They produced 11 fidget quilts specifically designed for dementia patients, which help provide comfort and stimulation. Additionally, they made 30 placemats for Meals on Wheels, ensuring that those receiving meals also enjoyed a touch of warmth and care. The guild also created 3 pillowcases and 27 mattress covers for the NICU at Hershey Children's Hospital, contributing to a more comforting environment for newborns and their families. In support of the Humble Bumble Project, they assembled 52 Humble Haversacks and 52 Bumble Bags to be filled with items for cancer patients and their caregivers. Furthermore, the guild honored veterans in hospice care by providing 32 quilts through the We Honor With Quilts initiative. Lastly, they made an impressive 88 comfort quilts for both children and adults facing challenges in Tioga and Potter counties, demonstrating their commitment to spreading warmth and kindness throughout the community.
